Driver License/Auto RegistrationEvery Alabama resident who operates any motor vehicle must have a valid driver’s license. All applicants who have not been licensed in Alabama or whose Alabama license has been expired for over one year must pass the required driver’s examination. Application should be made in your county of residence. Study guides for the driver’s examination are available by clicking here and can be picked up in person at a Jefferson County Revenue Department location. Tag renewals may be processed at any of the four Jefferson County Revenue Department locations listed below. You may also renew your registration by mail if you receive a renewal reminder for your vehicle. Or you may use Express Lane to renew your registration from this website. To avoid long lines and save time, the best time to renew your tag in person is between the 10th of the month and the 25th of the month.

Voter Registration

It is important to remember to register to vote in your new hometown. Voter registration must be completed at the County Courthouse 10 days before any election. You may be able to register at other locations around the city. Please call the Courthouse to find the nearest location. You will need a valid driver license or other form of identification, and your Social Security number. Special assistance for people with disabilities is available.

Hunting/Fishing/Boating

Hunting, fishing and boating licenses are issued yearly.
Boat registration is required. Licenses can be obtained at any of the 4 county courthouses, between 8a.m.-5p.m. Monday through Friday. Llocations are:
